Graduate Assistant position in CPASS available - Apply by December 1
The WVU College of Physical Activity and Sport Sciences (CPASS) has one opening for a graduate assistant (GA) on a funded grant from the USDA Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program Education (SNAP-ED). The project involves implementing the WV CARDIAC Project school-based health screenings in grades K, 2, and 5 in elementary schools in 20 West Virginia counties, and implementing physical activity and nutrition interventional strategies in those schools. The GA will be housed in CPASS, with some expectations of overnight travel throughout WV. The GA is for one year with an option to renew based on successful performance evaluations conducted by the PI (Dr. Eloise Elliott), and the Project Coordinator, and based on project funding renewal.
This GA will support the health screening and intervention efforts on the grant, and assist with data entry and communication plan activities. The duties associated with this position include managing school approval, participation, and reporting (to schools, parents, and physicians), data collection and entry, database management, and assisting with other writing responsibilities associated with the grant. The position may also be asked to help with health screenings in schools, workshops, and nutrition and physical activity interventional strategies in the schools and/or communities.
Computer skills and research experience with data analysis programs are desired. The successful candidate should have the ability to work independently and within a small research team; he/she will also have strong interpersonal, writing and organizational skills. Preference will be given to students with previous training and experience in evaluation research and community-based interventions.
Position start date is January 1, 2019. Appointment is for 9 months with the potential for a renewal. Renewal is not guaranteed and is dependent on continued grant funding from SNAP-ED. This position has required work in the summer. The monthly salary stipend will be approximately $1400-$1425/month plus tuition waiver. Student not eligible for a tuition waiver may be hired as hourly workers at the rate of $18 per hour for up to 20 hours per week.
Full-time enrollment in a WVU MA/MS or PhD program, or related graduate program is required.
Selection of the GA will be based on the following criteria:
1. Experience with obesity or physical activity program delivery or research
2. Strong research skills (quantitative and qualitative)
3. Strong interpersonal and writing skills
