Nominations open for SPH Faculty & Staff Awards for AY2018-19
In an effort to merge two separate processes that occurred last year, the School of Public Health is happy to announce the revised SPH Faculty & Staff Awards. The awards will be presented at the April 18 All-Hands Meeting. Please see below for details.
Award Descriptions
1. Faculty Excellence in Research:
This award recognizes excellence in producing research with a clear public health impact in West Virginia and beyond. Competitive candidates for this award will be able to demonstrate a clear record of publishing/presenting scholarly works, leading or participating in research and/or evaluation projects, and doing so in a manner that advances the field of public health while promising to make a positive difference in the health and well-being of specific communities or populations.
2. Faculty Excellence in Service:
This award recognizes excellence while providing service to academic, professional, and/or community organizations. Competitive candidates for this award will be able to demonstrate their role in advancing an organization(s) of importance to the field of public health and/or making a substantial public health impact on specific communities or community groups.
3. Outstanding Staff Award
This award recognizes who embody the mission and values of the University and the School of Public Health. Competitive candidates for this award will be able to demonstrate exemplary performance that promotes a sense of positivity and community, promotes inclusivity and provides continuous high-quality performance and dependability.
Award Eligibility
All active WVU SPH faculty and adjunct faculty are eligible for faculty awards. All active WVU SPH staff members are eligible for staff awards. Previous recipients of any university, health sciences center, or faculty council awards are not precluded from eligibility.
Nomination Requirements
Nominations can be made by any current SPH employee (faculty, staff, or administration).
Nomination packets must be submitted as a single PDF, be no longer than a total of 10 type-written pages, and limited to the following items:
- 1 nomination letter that summarizes the nominee’s qualifications for the award (required, maximum of 2 pages),
- Optional letters of support (maximum of 3 letters no more than 2 pages each), and
- Optional supporting documentation and/or examples of excellence relevant to the award descriptions above.
Nomination packets for the AY2018-19 awards should be submitted by email to Shonnette Kingston at Shonnette.Kingston@hsc.wvu.edu no later than Friday, April 5, 2019, by 5 p.m. Packets that do not meet these requirements or are submitted after the deadline will not be reviewed.
Selection Process
Award recipients will be selected by members of the SPH Dean’s Council. The Council will make their selection decisions based on the information provided by the nominator and the nominee’s demonstrated ability to meet the established award criteria. Additionally, each award will not necessarily be given every year, i.e., rotating from one person to another, but are instead intended to recognize special achievement. The Council may also choose to award more than one nominee in any category.
*Note: Additional awards for Faculty Excellence in Teaching will be determined and awarded by the student body of the School of Public Health.
