CDC Health Communications and Social Marketing Fellowship: APPLICATION DEADLINE: March 12, 2019
A fellowship opportunity is available with the Communications, Education, and Behavioral Studies Branch, Division of Tuberculosis Elimination (DTBE), within the National Center for HIV/AIDS, Viral Hepatitis, STD and TB Prevention (NCHHSTP) at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) in Atlanta, Georgia. The mission of the Division of Tuberculosis Elimination (DTBE) is to promote health and quality of life by preventing, controlling, and eventually eliminating tuberculosis in the United States. The research participant will be placed in the Communications, Education, and Behavioral Studies Branch (CEBSB) within the Division of Tuberculosis Elimination (DTBE). This project will provide the fellow with an educational experience in health communications and social marketing around tuberculosis disease and latent tuberculosis infection. VIEW/APPLY
CDC Public Health Data Analyst: APPLICATION DEADLINE: March 29, 2019
A fellowship opportunity is available within the Influenza Division (ID), which provides the scientific and programmatic foundation and leadership for the diagnosis, prevention, and control of influenza domestically and internationally. The selected participant will train under a designated mentor in the Influenza Prevention and Control Team (IPACT), which is responsible for studies describing influenza vaccine effectiveness and studies describing antiviral medication use and effectiveness. The participant will be trained in data management and analysis for several large projects within IPACT including a potential project to assess annual influenza vaccine effectiveness in preventing severe influenza disease. CDC Networks and Health Fellowship: APPLICATION DEADLINE: March 29, 2019
A fellowship opportunity is currently available in the Community Interventions for Infection Control Unit (CI-ICU), which plays a key role in the development of recommendations on use of non-pharmaceutical interventions (NPIs) for mitigating the transmission of pandemic influenza. The selected candidate will be trained on the development of public health programs and projects for pandemic influenza planning, preparedness and response as well as evaluation of public health projects, epidemiological investigations, and literature reviews. CDC Health Policy Fellowship: APPLICATION DEADLINE: April 1, 2019
The participant will train in policy research, analysis, review, and translation activities. He/she will support the Office of the Associate Director for Policy and Strategy (OADPS) policy analysis and research efforts by conducting literature reviews on relevant public health topics and developing scientific and translation products. The participant will be part of a team that focuses on policy analysis and research, and will support projects related to the agency’s 6|18 Initiative. The 6|18 Initiative seeks to expand the coverage, access, utilization, and quality of evidence-based prevention services through partnerships with health care purchasers, health plans, and providers. A fellowship opportunity is available with the Division of Health Informatics and Surveillance (DHIS), which provides leadership and cross-cutting support in developing public health information systems, managing public health surveillance programs, and provisioning health related data required to monitor, control and prevent the occurrence and spread of diseases and other adverse health conditions. A fellowship opportunity is currently available in the Chronic Viral Diseases Branch (CVDB) within the Division of High-Consequence Pathogens and Pathology (DHCPP) of the National Center for Emerging and Zoonotic Infectious Diseases (NCEZID) at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) in Atlanta, Georgia. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) seeks applicants for the 2019 class of the CDC Evaluation Fellowship Program. This is the 9th year of this initiative, and represents a major commitment by CDC to program evaluation and program improvement. Fellows participate under the leadership of CDC's Chief Evaluation Officer; they will be matched with CDC host programs in Atlanta, Georgia to be trained on program evaluation activities for/with those programs. CDC Clinical Chemistry Fellowship: APPLICATION DEADLINE: April 9, 2019
The Division of Laboratory Sciences (DLS) conducts research and provides laboratory support that improves the detection, diagnosis, treatment and prevention of environmental, tobacco-related, nutritional, newborn, selected chronic and selected infectious diseases. Within DLS, the Protein Biomarker and Lipids Reference Laboratories in the Clinical Chemistry Branch supports this through performing research on biomarkers to detect human exposure to environmental chemicals and to diagnose and treat chronic diseases, as well as through the Clinical Harmonization program to improve the quality and reliability of diagnostic tests for priority clinical analyses. CDC Developmental Disabilities Epidemiology Fellowship: APPLICATION DEADLINE: April 10, 2019
The National Center on Birth Defects and Developmental Disabilities (NCBDDD)’s mission is to promote the health of babies, children and adults and to enhance the potential for full, productive living. Under the direction of senior scientists and project coordinators, participants will train within the Epidemiology and the Surveillance Teams of the Developmental Disabilities Branch, in the analysis of public health data and identification of strategies with the potential to influence constituents’ health care associated with developmental disorders. Participants are assigned to train on various research study projects on congenital and developmental disabilities, and to train in functions related to monitor changes in prevalence and contributing risk factors, and prevention policies and program messages. CDC Bioinformatics Fellowship: APPLICATION DEADLINE: April 15, 2019
This project, located in the Division of Sexually Transmitted Disease Prevention (DSTDP), is focused on developing tools and performing novel computational analysis of whole genome data of Neisseria gonorrhoeae. Specific bioinformatics applications include: (1) detailed genomic characterization of the pathogen, (2) integrating genotyping of organism with annual surveillance of infections, and/or (3) identification of statistical correlations of genotypes with phenotypic, epidemiologic and antimicrobial susceptibility data. The selected participant will support the growth of a laboratory program located at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) integrating bacterial genomics and public health through successful and timely execution of microbiological and/or bioinformatics projects. This project is within the Division of Tuberculosis Elimination (DTBE), whose mission is to promote health and quality of life by preventing, controlling, and eventually eliminating tuberculosis in the United States. The selected candidate will be placed in the Applied Research Team (ART) in the Division of TB Elimination Laboratory Branch. The projects associated with this opportunity will focus on two main areas: host-directed therapies and drug-resistant Mycobacterium tuberculosis. Advanced Molecular Diagnostic Fellowship: APPLICATION DEADLINE: May 10, 2019
This project is a training program for an individual ORISE fellow to become highly competent in the development of novel of Polymerase Chain Reaction (PCR) and next generation sequencing based diagnostics for parasitic diseases. The fellow will be trained at post-doctoral level in the development of bioinformatic pipelines, graphical user interfaces and minor software development for use in novel diagnostic tools. The fellow will learn and apply several methods of DNA extraction for molecular parasitology. The fellow will also be trained at post-doctoral level in the theory, development, use and troubleshooting of diagnostic PCR tests for parasitic pathogens. VIEW/APPLY
