Service opportunities from iServe
WVU's iServe platform has a variety of service opportunities available for students. Here are a few SPH students might find interesting!
- Bright Future for Marion County (Nov. 28-29, 2019)
https://iserve.wvu.edu/need/detail/?need_id=377959
Our 4-H annual Bright Futures for Marion County will be held Wednesday, November 28, 2018 and Thursday, November 29, 2018 at Fairmont State University. This event focuses on healthy choices (i.e. nutrition, physical activity, substance abuse prevention) and is open to all eighth graders in Marion County. We will have about 250 kids each day. We are looking for help with moving the students between the different workshop locations. Lunch is provided. Some downtime between workshops is available for studying - WVU Core Arboretum Work Day Wednesdays, winter 2018
https://iserve.wvu.edu/need/detail/?need_id=379850
Volunteers help keep the WVU Core Arboretum beautiful, and you can be a part of the crew each Wednesday from 1-4 pm! Volunteers will work on trails, do invasive species removal, clean drainage channels, maintain lawn areas, etc. The program is open to all. It is hard work, but good exercise, and it is much appreciated by the Arboretum’s many users. There is a limit on the number of volunteers that we can accommodate each day, but the program will be ongoing. Interested volunteers should register here, and email Zach Fowler (zfowler@mail.wvu.edu) with any questions. Volunteers will meet near the Arboretum parking lot. Volunteers should wear closed toe shoes, long pants, and clothes that are okay to get dirty. The event will be cancelled if the weather is dangerous. - Holiday Food and Toy Drive-Distribution Day-December 13, 2018
https://iserve.wvu.edu/need/detail/?need_id=381681
Volunteers are needed to do a variety of activities on the day of the distribution. We will primarily need volunteers to help clients find toys for their children (shoppers), restocking tables with toys, food distribution, and a variety of other activities. Shifts are flexible based on when you are best able to volunteer. 4-hour shifts are listed just so we can get an idea of when we will have volunteers. Please sign up for the shift that most closely aligns with when you would want to volunteer. If more than one individual, please sign up as a team! - Grant Writers helping Empty Bowls Monongalia-ongoing
https://iserve.wvu.edu/need/detail/?need_id=383911
Empty Bowls Monongalia (EBM) is seeking several volunteers to help write grants supporting EBM. Prior grant writing experience is not necessary - we will help volunteers learn how to complete grant applications. Volunteers will then be able to work where ever and when ever it is convenient for them to work on a grant. Training can be done at our office in Westover, or any other convenient location. Most grants and foundations will have been identified. The mission of EBM is to combat food insecurity in Monongalia County, where 15.2% of our neighbors, including 2,550 children, are food insecure. EBM has multiple fundraising activities, including grant writing. The funds EBM raises is distributed to 24 local pantries, meal programs and backpack programs via grants those agencies submit to EBM.
