Update regarding SPH’s strategic planning process

Dear Colleagues, Students and Members of the WVU School of Public Health Community:

This note serves as a continual follow-up to Dean Coben’s original email dated September 17, 2018, and will provide an outline of our current progress as well as describe the next immediate steps in our strategic planning initiative. On Monday, November 5, 2018, the strategic planning task force convened the first in a series of several upcoming meetings to begin the process of generating a draft set of priorities for introduction and discussion during our December 7 All-Hands meeting. Leslie Miele, our external facilitator for the strategic planning process, will lead this discussion and continue to serve as our consultant during the remainder of this six-month planning process tentatively scheduled to be completed by March 2019.

Our goal is to continue to encourage your input to assist in transforming our CEPH-accredited School of Public Health into an innovative program that takes advantage of our unique position in the State. The following list will serve to dictate next steps through January 2019.

  1. Provide relevant updates, thoughts, and ideas regarding the Strategic Planning process and facilitate an open dialogue/Q&A session during the December 7, 2018, All-Hands meeting.
  2. Meet with the SPH Leadership Council on December 7 to solicit feedback relevant to this process.
  3. Create a series of open-ended questions made available for anonymous online input via the SPH website.
  4. Host the first in the series of open forums for faculty, staff, students and stakeholders.

As a reminder, this strategic process will allow us to engage with the many new hires and other internal and external partners and stakeholders who play a pivotal role in our School. Additionally, we agree with the sentiment that the success of this process depends on input from all members of the SPH. We look forward to working with each of you as we begin this critical next step in moving the School forward.

Sincerely,

Sarah C. Woodrum, Senior Associate Dean for Administration

Linda A. Alexander, Senior Associate Dean for Academic, Student and Faculty Affairs

Shonnette J. Kingston, Chief of Staff
